UIC’s applied program was instrumental in getting me to where I am today. While in the program I was encouraged to seek out opportunities to get involved in research which led to my involvement in the Summer Research Opportunities program (SROP).

While with SROP I designed and conducted my own study as a student researcher. By the time I went on internship my last semester, I felt I was more than capable of doing an applied research project.

Research can be really intimidating until you actually do it. It’s great that there’s an internship with a research component as the program capstone.

The experience and skills that I gained as an intern were invaluable. We were encouraged to apply to internship sites that aligned with our interest and it was the best advice I could have gotten.

My time at Metropolitan Family Services helped to fuel my passion for education. I worked there for a year and a half post-internship until I left to begin the School Psychology graduate program at Northern Illinois University.

From the courses offered to the advisors and faculty, the program provided me with the tools needed to move forward toward a career in psychology, and it will do the same for many more students just like me.
