In accordance with the Graduate College's commitment to diversity, we welcome all applications from groups that are underrepresented in higher education.

If you are currently undocumented, we invite you to explore UIC's resources for undocumented students. There are a number of scholarships both at UIC and more broadly available that are specifically aimed at undocumented graduate students, and if you currently have DACA status, you are very welcome to apply for the regular TA/RA funding that we offer to the rest of our graduate student population. The department also offers the Psychology Diversity Research Award for incoming students.

The Graduate College has decided to build a program at UIC to recruit and support outstanding underrepresented PhD students, who are interested in pursuing careers as faculty members. Our intent is to support these students with competitive funding packages, skills and professional development opportunities and mentoring in order to ensure their success in graduate school and in their future careers. Please see UIC Pipeline to an Inclusive Faculty (PIF) Program for more information.

The Graduate College has hosted the Summer Research Opportunities Program [SROP] for nearly 35 years and served over one thousand outstanding underrepresented minority college students. The eight-week faculty-supervised experience introduces students to academic research, graduate admissions, graduate study, and careers in academia. We have established the SROP Early Admission Graduate Fellowship to recruit and support SROP alumni in our graduate programs at UIC.

The U of I System has entered into an agreement with CONACYT (the National Science Foundation of Mexico) to support up to 10 Mexican nationals [annually] who have been admitted into PhD programs at one of the three UI System universities. Please see the Graduate College's website for more information.

UIC also participates in the Diversifying Higher Education Faculty in Illinois Fellowship program, which can supplement funding offered by the Psychology department. Please see the Graduate College's website and the information provided by the state of Illinois for information about applying.

Please send an email to if you have any questions or concerns, or if you are an undocumented student without DACA status that is interested in applying to our program.
